Saying farewell...

The term is coming to an end and I have marked all exams. Hopefully all students in P4 will make it to the next school smoothely.
To round up this term and say the class farewell, I have invited them to my house today. We cooked, ate, laughed, the children showered like a typical "Mzungu" for the first time, played and, of course, we took a lot of pictures. Dispite the mess and noise, this was a great day for all of us, I think.
Soon, there won't be any lessons for two months. This gives me, a priviledged white person, the opportunity to travel through the East African Union. Felix, another VIA volunteer from Musanze (Rwanda), has already arrived in Kampala. If everything goes as planned, we will visit other volunteers from VIA in Fort Portal (Uganda), Jinja (Uganda), Nairobi (Kenya), Dar Es Salam (Tanzania), Zanzibar (Tanzania) and Kigali (Rwanda). The well-educated reader might already realise: this is a huge distance and a circle around Lake Victoria. Especially in comparison to this year's long-distance trip through northern Europe (mentioned in an earlier post; Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Arctic Circle, western Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany), this will be very interesting.

First and hopefully not last class picture. Some of the neighbours photo-bombed this one...

Losing in draft (German: Dame) against Hafuswa. Living room.

Rope skipping in front of my house with my students.

Playing a couple days before the final exams.

I seemed to be the first white person who has visited a neighbourhood meeting "Village Meeting" here in Nsambya, Kirombe. Even though I've been learning Luganda for only two months now, I managed to understand a bit. This meeting definitely had a lot of discord. In this picture you see the chairman for our area. Next to him there is the new police officer for our area. Some of the topics people discussed about: rubbish disposal, safety and security, paying bills. The chairman is also the shop owner of a shop only a few metres away from my gate.

The man who has been pulling the strings and keeping this project alive for more than 12 years now: Moshin.

A special dancing event organized by other volunteering people.

Purchasing beans, spices and rice and basicly everything at Owino Market in town. We needed a lot for so many children.

New decoration for my wall.

No words...
